Today's Tip
One of the
simplest things you can do on a
daily
basis to alkalize
your body is drink clean water
with a squeeze of lemon in
it.
Although lemons
themselves are acidic, the
effect
they have on the
body is very
alkalizing.
Over a hundred
years ago it was noted in a
respected medical journal that
drinking one Lemon Squash
(lemon squeezed in water) every
day would keep you healthy.
Replacing
sweetened and processed drinks
with lemon water has the double
benefit of eliminating the acidic
drink and including an
ultra-alkalizing
alternative.
An interesting
note about lemons is that they
are available year-round all
over the world. They are the
most universally global produce
on the planet.
If you're going
to make lemonade rather than
just add a squeeze of lemon to
your clean water, keep in mind
that most sweeteners are acidic
and will reduce the benefits
available.
Another Great
Alkalizing Recipe
Here's a great
winter comfort food (I eat year round)
made in a very alkalizing
way.
Spicy
Oatmeal
Here's how I fix
a bowl of oatmeal for one serving any
time of the day I want something solid
and grounding.
1 cup water with
sea salt to taste
2/3 cup old
fashioned oats
Spices to taste:
nutmeg, cinnamon, ground cloves,
cardamom, and poppy seed (I add more
than you might think and it's really
good!)
Sliced raw
almonds, dried cranberries, and golden
raisins to
taste
Sucanat sugar to
taste (I use about 1 to 2
Tbsp)
1 Tbsp organic
butter or ghee (clarified
butter)
1/4 cup organic
milk
In a small pan,
mix water, sea salt, oats, spices,
almonds, raisins and cranberries. Cover
and bring just to a slight boil then
reduce heat to very low and allow to
cook a couple of minutes (until liquid
is reduced). Stir well.
In a serving
bowl, add sucanat and butter/ghee.
Empty oatmeal contents into serving
bowl and mix to melt butter and sugar.
Add milk on top just before
eating.
A couple of
notes about the
ingredients...
Interestingly,
sea salt is very alkalizing while
normal table salt is very
acidic.
Spices and
herbs, for the most part, are very
alkalizing. Add them to meals to
enhance flavor and to provide the
alkalizing affect you
seek.
Anything organic
is more alkalizing than its
conventional
counterpart.
Sucanat (a
contraction of "sugar cane natural") is
non-refined cane sugar. It is
essentially pure dried sugar cane juice
that can be used in the same way you
would use white sugar.
I've learned not
to be afraid of butter for its fat
content. When you alkalize, it's not as
much a concern. Besides, it's better to
cook with butter than to heat oil to a
point where it becomes acidic. Even the
best oils become acidic when heated.
Simply prepare
multiples of the ingredients to
increase the number of servings
(i.e. 2 cups water and 4/3rds or 1
and 1/3 cup oatmeal, etc.).
